Alletta Kolvachik 1914-2011

Vol. XXII No. 2 - SUMMER 2011

Alletta Kolvachik, our neighbor and supporter, passed away in June. She was an enthusiastic activist in the Edgewater community and a member of the Edgewater Historical Society for many years. Her home was one of the landmark homes in Edgewater designed by Walter Burley Griffin. She always made it available for our home tours. The last one was in 2009.

Alletta was born in New Jersey and graduated from NYU with a degree in Music Education. She carried her love of music throughout her life and spent many years teaching piano. She also sang with the Chicago Symphony Chorus under the direction of Margaret Hills. More recently she hosted a few rehearsals of the Edgewater singers.

She was a member of the Church of the Atonement and a Cubs fan. Alletta was preceded in death by her husband Joe and is survived by their son, Jim.
