Relive the Golden Age of radio drama with “Those Were the Days
Radio Players” - Chicago North chapter. On Saturday, August 1, 2015, at 2:00 p.m. at the Edgewater Branch Library (6000 N. Broadway), the Radio Players will perform two programs:
The Bickersons: John the Shoplifter was originally broadcast on August 28, 1951, and starred Lew Parker and Frances Langford as John and Blanche Bickerson. The radio series ran from 1946 until 1947 with Don Ameche as John Bickerson, and then again during 1951 with Lew Parker as John Bickerson. This was the last episode.
My Favorite Husband: Spring Cleaning was originally broadcast April 30, 1950, and starred Lucille Ball and Richard Denning as Liz and George Cooper - “two people who live together and like it”. The radio series ran from 1948 until 1951. My Favorite Husband was the basis for the I Love Lucy television show.

Join us for a reading by Edgewater author Bill Hillman followed by a “Go Edgewater” tour of several sites from his novel “The Old Neighborhood.”
The next meeting of the Chicago History Book Club will be Saturday, June 6, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at the Edgewater Branch of the Chicago Public Library. The books to be discussed are “Civil War Chicago: Eyewitness to History” edited by Theodore J. Karamanski and Eileen M. McMahon (Ohio University Press, 2014) and “Rally ‘Round the Flag: Chicago and the Civil War” by Theodore J. Karamanski (Rowman & Littlefield, 2006).
The current exhibit at the EHS Museum, Motoring through Edgewater, explores the history of how the automobile transformed the Edgewater neighborhood. The exhibit runs until May 3, 2015, and features photographs, maps and other artifacts from the museum’s collection. Related programs will be offered during the exhibit.
The next meeting of the Chicago History Book Club will be Saturday, April 25, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at the Edgewater Branch of the Chicago Public Library. The books to be discussed are “Hospital: An Oral History of Cook County Hospital” by Sydney Lewis (New Press, 1995) and “County: Life, Death and Politics at Chicago’s Public Hospital” by David A. Ansell (Chicago Review Press, 2011).
The Edgewater Historical Society invites you to the 2015 Annual Meeting, presenting candidates for your Board of Directors and telling you about plans for 2015-16. The meeting will be on Saturday, March 21, 2015 at 10 a.m. at the Edgewater Branch Library, 6000 N. Broadway. 
Learn about the architecture and social history of Chicago’s Historic Northside Schools on Wednesday, March 18, 2015, at 7 p.m. at the Sulzer Regional Library, 4455 N. Lincoln Ave. The speakers will be Julia S. Bachrach and Elizabeth A. Patterson.
