2015 Austin Wyman Lecture (Past)

Jan SchakowskyThe 2015 Fall General meeting and Austin Wyman Lecture will be on Monday, October 19, 2015 at 7:15 p.m. at the Broadway Armory, 5917 N. Broadway.

We are pleased to welcome Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky as our featured speaker. A strong advocate for immigration reform and fervent advocate for immigrant constituents, her perspective promises to be a timely introduction to the “Voices of Edgewater” exhibit, which runs from October 24, 2015 until May 28, 2016.

Plein Air Painters Exhibit (Past)

The EHS Museum will again become an art gallery to showcase selected works of the Plein Air Painters of Chicago during Andersonville Arts Weekend (October 9‑11, 2015). There will be a reception at the Museum on Friday (Oct. 9) from 5‑9 p.m. and the Museum will be open extended hours (10 a.m. to 4 p.m.) on Saturday and Sunday (Oct. 10‑11). Edgewater's Landmark Buildings (Past)

What goes into making a building a Chicago landmark? Did you know there are 19 places in Edgewater that have special designations? Stop by the EHS Museum for the exhibit Edgewater’s Landmark Buildings and find out how this works and where our local landmarks are located. The exhibit will run until October 4, 2015.

Also continuing from the Motoring through Edgewater exhibit will be the presentation of the “North Side Motor Row” map of Broadway and the story of how that Motor Row looked in 1928.

2015 Edgewater Home Tour (Past)

The 27th Annual Edgewater Home Tour is Sunday, September 20, 2015.

Register at Philadelphia Church (5437 North Clark) between Noon and 4:00 p.m.

This year, the tour will feature homes and their interiors in the East Andersonville neighborhood. The $25/person admission includes the tour booklet and refreshments. Click here for more information.

2015 Summer Nights in Edgewater (Past)

Join your neighbors again this year, on warm summer nights, for our popular community program of free live performances. From July 9 to August 27, 2015, every Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m., different local musicians will entertain you in the beautiful EHS garden. Refreshments will be served. We are pet friendly! Chicago History Book Group (Past)

American PharaohThe next meeting of the Chicago History Book Club will be Saturday, August 22, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at the Edgewater Branch of the Chicago Public Library. The books to be discussed are “American Pharaoh: Mayor Richard J. Daley - His Battle for Chicago and the Nation” By Adam Cohen and Elizabeth Taylor (Little, Brown & Co, 2000), and “Boss: Richard J. Those Were the Days Radio Players (Past)

Relive the Golden Age of radio drama with “Those Were the Days Radio Players” - Chicago North chapter. On Saturday, August 1, 2015, at 2:00 p.m. at the Edgewater Branch Library (6000 N. Broadway), the Radio Players will perform two programs:

The Bickersons: John the Shoplifter was originally broadcast on August 28, 1951, and starred Lew Parker and Frances Langford as John and Blanche Bickerson. The radio series ran from 1946 until 1947 with Don Ameche as John Bickerson, and then again during 1951 with Lew Parker as John Bickerson. This was the last episode.

My Favorite Husband: Spring Cleaning was originally broadcast April 30, 1950, and starred Lucille Ball and Richard Denning as Liz and George Cooper - “two people who live together and like it”. The radio series ran from 1948 until 1951. My Favorite Husband was the basis for the I Love Lucy television show.

Our June program will honor the 2015 Living Treasures of Edgewater. Each of the four individuals being honored this year has done something special to make Edgewater the wonderful community we enjoy today. The presentation will give you a grass roots insight into why Edgewater is unique in Chicago. We encourage you to attend, recognize our Living Treasures and celebrate their accomplishments.
