Regas Chefas
Regas Chefas has lived in Edgewater most of his life. As a child he was intrigued by nurturing growing things. From humble beginnings selling Christmas trees from a Clark Street lot, he has created one of the most prestigious gardening centers in Chicago. His personal horticultural interests have over time resulted in the multi block garden center known as Gethsemane Gardens.
Along the way Regas has given back to the community that has supported him. He has provided in kind donations to many community groups – the Edgewater Historical Society, West Andersonville Gardens and West Edgewater Area Residents to name only a few. He has transformed an overgrown stretch of land at the point where Clark and Ashland meet into a beautiful public meeting space. Helping others and beautifying his community are important to him. Regas is not the kind of person to boast about his community efforts; he feels that is not productive. But from his generosity it is clear that he feels a responsibility in helping to cultivate the Edgewater community.
Regas Chefas:
“If you see a difficult job through to the end, it usually works out for the best.”
