Joseph Donnelly

Joseph Donnelly is a retired school teacher who is anything but retiring. He has remained active in the Edgewater Community and his local parish in ways that would challenge the energy of a much younger man. During his teaching days, he served on a Model Cities Council.
He was instrumental in the formation of the Lakewood Balmoral Residents Council and putting together a precinct organization that helped elect Alderwoman Marion Volini. Joe has always helped those in most need of help - from sponsoring a refugee family from Myanmar, to creating a haven for the elderly who lack family support.
Especially for those advanced in age, Joe has served as a devoted guide through the morass of paperwork involved in medical procedures, making grocery runs, even funeral arrangements. He has worked together with St Gertrude parish to help with elder care and all its ramifications.
But perhaps the volunteer work that affected Joe most personally was his 30 years involvement in hospice care. Joe has been characterized as someone who will never say no to helping anyone who needs it.
Joseph Donnelly
“I wouldn’t be the man I am today, for sure,
if I hadn’t been able to volunteer.”
