Vol. XIV No. 3 - SUMMER 2003

Violet Mayian

Violet Mayian, beloved mother of Stephan (Carol) Mayian of Escondido CA and Ara (Elizabeth) Mayian of Edgewater. Passed away on July 3, 2003 after her son Ara had flown there to be with her. She was born in Diaberkir Turkey on May 22, 1909 and was a member of many Armenian organizations including the Armenian Missionary Association, Armenian Relief Society and St. John Armenian Church of San Diego. She raised her family in Edgewater at 5720 N. Wayne from 1949 to 1967. Her son, Ara, attended St. Ita’s Grade school and is currently an usher there.

A memorial service was held at the May Chapel of Rosehill Cemetery on August 2, 2003. She was remembered fondly by her family and friends as a determined woman who found that she could learn a lot about the world from careful observation and asking questions.

She was buried in her mother’s grave at Rosehill.

William Finnegan

William Finnegan, lifelong resident of Edgewater who lived in the same house for 63 years passed away suddenly in August. A donation has been made to the Edgewater Historical Society in his memory.

Thomas Krueger

Thomas Krueger joined the Board of the Edgewater Historical Society in March of this year. In a short time he was involved in surveying the needs of the building and looking for ways he could help out. He brought in a better answering machine and consulted his dad about the back door. We did not know he was ill, until after he was hospitalized. Then just as suddenly as he had appeared in our lives he was taken away in May. We will not forget his generous spirit.
