Laurie Hasbrook

Laurie Hasbrook has lived and worked in Edgewater for over 20 years. She believes in addressing the issues facing the world at the community level. She saw volunteering as a way not only to meet neighbors, but to contribute to her community. When her children were small, Laurie was a volunteer crossing guard at Hayt School and hasn’t stopped volunteering since.

She has worked diligently to improve the lives of others in Edgewater by serving as a support person for three Iraqi refugee families. Laurie has assisted migrants who gathered around the 24th District police station, sleeping on the ground without food or adequate clothing. She has worked with various mutual aid networks and WhatsApp groups to distribute goods and services to help these new neighbors. She has even found time to join the Parkway Pollinators sponsored by EEC.

Laurie wants to make a difference in the community. She believes that Edgewater, with its diverse mix of people, is a great strength and is the perfect place to welcome and help integrate displaced individuals and families.
