V28-3 General Meeting Speaker

Vol. XXVIII No. 3 - SUMMER 2017

On Saturday, August 12th, EHS held a general meeting at the Edgewater Branch Library, with a fascinating presentation by R.J. Nelson, who wrote “Dirty Waters: Confessions of Chicago’s Last Harbor Boss.” His intriguing stories came from his tenure cleaning up the city’s corrupted harbors. Appointed by reform Mayor Harold Washington, he realized that each of his four predecessors had gone to jail and his new office door was still broken from a prior FBI raid. He had quite the challenge to overcome a long organizational culture of corruption.
