2013 Annual Meeting (Past)

Lawrence OkrentThe Edgewater Historical Society will hold its Annual Meeting on Saturday, March 16, 2013, at 10:00 a.m. at the Broadway Armory, 5917 Broadway, Chicago. The featured speaker will be author Lawrence Okrent, author of Chicago from the Sky: a Region Transformed. Mr. Okrent is a noted urban planner and pilot. His stunning book of aerial photo documents two and half decades of development in the Chicago region beginning from 1985-2010. His presentation will include many of his unpublished aerial photos of Edgewater and the north lakefront.

A limited number of copies of Chicago from the Sky will be available for purchase after the presentation. Everyone is invited to this free program. Light refreshments will be served.

Prior to the presentation, members of the Edgewater Historical Society will be asked to vote on directors for the 2013-14 year. If you are not a member of EHS and would like to join that day, we will have a special offer for you.

EHS members who attend the Annual Meeting will receive a free book at the conclusion of the meeting. Lake Claremont Press has donated copies of What Would Jane Say? City-Building Women and a Tale of Two Chicagos, by Janice Metzger. This very informative and provocative inquiry into the role women played in the City Beautiful Movement stimulates us to think how different Chicago might have been had women like Jane Addams and others had a hand in the 1909 Plan of Chicago.
