Good Neighbor Award
Thom Greene, AIA, of GreenSky Company LLC and Greene and Proppe Design Inc, and Nadeen Kieren, his wife and co-owner of GreenSky Company, received the 2007 Good Neighbor Award for Commercial renovation from the Chicago Association of Realtor for their renovation of their 1898 Victorian building located at 5357 N. Ashland. The building includes a vintage retail space and apartments. The building now hosts Sunburst Florist and Nadeen’s shop GreenSky.
Thom Greene was also honored at the Andersonville Midsommarfest with the 2007 Kurt Mathiasson Community Service Award for his overall commitment to beautification and preserving history in the community. As many of you know Thom can be found walking around Andersonville with clippers in hand keeping track of the trees and landscape as well as the storefronts and restoration. This list of Thom’s activities in the community are too long to fit in here. He has taken a leadership role in the streetscape and design of the new Andersonville and offered assistance to the Chamber whenever asked.
The Andersonville Chamber of Commerce established the award in 2000 to honor Kurt Mathiasson, known affectionately as the “Mayor of Andersonville.” to recognize the person who most exemplifies Kurt’s devotion and commitment to the ongoing vitality of the Andersonville community. Thom Greene does that as we at the Edgewater Historical Society can attest with his beautiful reinvention of the unused Chicago fire house at Balmoral and Ashland into the beautiful Edgewater Historical Society Museum.
