From the President

With the celebration of our third year anniversary we have great news to report. We will be hosting a tour of the Uptown Theater on June 22, 1991, at 7 p.m.
It will be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see the theater before renovation. Since this will be a major fund-raising event for us we are looking for additional volunteers to assist. Please contact me if you can help.
1991 must be our lucky year! At a recent event at the North Lakeside Cultural Center the Edgewater Historical Society held the winning ticket on a raffle of “an evening at the mansion.” We will probably host a membership party in November/December. Anyone willing to create this event give me a call.
Our success during the past year has been because of the hard work and initiative of our officers and our board of directors. Special thanks to all who have contributed in so many ways to making 1990 a truly wonderful year.
Our outreach to schools and other organizations is growing. This year Peirce School is participating in the Chicago Metro History Fair for the first time. Lori Lynch is coordinating activities. I was able to show a slide program to two of the 8th grade classes in preparation for the Fair. We also assisted some students with photocopied materials about Edgewater. Everett Stetson made a visit to the school so that three young ladies could interview him about his days at Peirce.
We also showed slide programs at the Edgewater Beach Apartments and Anshe Emet Synagogue. Next on our list is a presentation at the Admiral.
Community clean-up activities this spring began with a Clean-Up at Senn Park on April 20, a tree planting at Senn Park on April 26 and an All-Edgewater Clean-Up on June 1. Hope you joined in the fun!
